Methacrylated Carboxymethyl Chitosan (CMChMA)
Description
Carboxymethyl chitosan is a highly water‑soluble derivative of chitosan that retains the native biocompatibility, biodegradability, hemostatic properties, and antimicrobial activity of chitosan, while the introduction of carboxymethyl groups significantly enhances its solubility, film‑forming ability, sustained‑release behavior, and metal‑ion chelation capacity. Its zwitterionic nature and molecular structure confer strong affinity for calcium ions, enabling effective regulation of biomineralization processes. As a result, it shows great promise in bone tissue repair, dental regenerative medicine, and wet‑environment tissue engineering. In addition, carboxymethyl chitosan is widely used in wound healing, drug delivery, gene carriers, and bioimaging applications.
Our CMChMA is a photosensitive, methacrylated biopolymer obtained by introducing methacryloyl (MA) groups onto carboxymethyl chitosan. This material combines excellent biological activity with photocrosslinking processability, allowing rapid in situ hydrogel formation under photoinitiated conditions. The spatiotemporal controllability of its crosslinking behavior greatly expands its potential in biomanufacturing and regenerative medicine.
