Methacrylated Carboxymethyl Cellulose (CMCMA)
Description
Carboxymethyl cellulose (CMC) is one of the most widely used cellulose derivatives, known for its non‑toxic nature, good solubility, and excellent physicochemical stability. It is commonly incorporated into wound dressings to control infection, absorb exudates, and promote healing. Because the human body lacks cellulase, CMC‑based materials resist biodegradation in vivo, allowing long‑term structural integrity—an advantage for postoperative anti‑adhesion barriers, tissue isolation membranes, and durable implantable devices.
CMCMA is a photocrosslinkable biopolymer obtained by introducing methacryloyl (MA) groups onto carboxymethyl cellulose. This modification combines the inherent stability and biocompatibility of cellulose with the processing benefits of light‑induced crosslinking. CMCMA enables rapid and controllable hydrogel formation, greatly simplifying the fabrication of cellulose‑based biomaterials and expanding their potential in regenerative medicine, wound care, and medical device applications.
