Description

SBSOrganoid™ Human Small Cell Lung Cancer Organoid Culture Medium is a convenient and efficient solution specifically designed for the cultivation of human small cell lung cancer organoids.

Organoids are complex three-dimensional (3D) structures grown in vitro that recapitulate the architecture and function of their corresponding organs or tissues in vivo. More strictly defined, organoids are 3D cell cultures derived from stem cells or progenitor cells that serve as in vitro platforms to mimic multiple aspects of organ development and function. During organoid formation, cells self-organize and differentiate into functional microtissues, simulating real organ development. This process is regulated by cell sorting and spatially restricted lineage commitment, requiring activation of diverse signaling pathways mediated by intrinsic cellular components and extrinsic factors such as extracellular matrix and culture medium.

Traditional cell culture is typically performed in two-dimensional (2D) formats. However, 2D cultures differ significantly from in vivo conditions in terms of growth patterns, morphology, differentiation, and function. The lack of tissue architecture often reduces the reliability of experimental outcomes. In contrast, organoid culture better replicates the in vivo microenvironment, more faithfully representing tissue organization and cell–cell as well as cell–matrix interactions. Organoids respond to endogenous and exogenous stimuli in ways that closely resemble their in vivo behavior, making them a more valuable and trustworthy experimental model that yields results consistent with in vivo studies. Organoid technology has been applied to a wide range of tissues and organs, offering tremendous potential in biomedical research. It provides models for development and pathology—including cancer, rare genetic disorders, and multifactorial diseases—and enables personalized drug response prediction, opening new avenues for regenerative medicine, drug discovery, and precision medicine.

The SBSOrganoid™ product series currently offers culture media for organoids derived from human and mouse tissues, including tumor, bile duct, mammary gland, cervix, intestine, stomach, kidney, lung, ovary, and bladder. In addition, a full range of supporting reagents is available, such as tissue dissociation solutions, passaging enzymes, organoid cryopreservation solutions, anti-adhesion rinsing solutions, and tissue preservation buffers. A selection of organoid-related cytokines is also provided. For a complete list of SBSOrganoid™ products, please refer to the product catalog.

Components

  • SBSOrganoid™ Human Small Cell Lung Cancer Organoid Basal Medium
  • Human Small Cell Lung Cancer Organoid Medium Additive A
  • Human Small Cell Lung Cancer Organoid Medium Additive B

Features

  • Simplified workflow: Integrated formulation eliminates the need for separate optimization or additional supplements. Simply mix the provided additives with the culture medium at defined ratios to initiate organoid culture.
  • High expansion potential: Certain organoids achieve >10-fold expansion per passage, with cell numbers reaching up to 1 × 10^6 within 14 days.
  • Versatile compatibility: Suitable for multiple culture formats, including Matrigel domes, low-attachment multiwell plates, and suspension bioreactors.
  • Consistent quality: Manufactured in GMP-grade facilities, ensuring high product quality and batch-to-batch stability.

Storage Conditions

  • Organoid Basal Medium: store at 4 °C; valid for one year. May also be stored at –20 °C.
  • Organoid Medium Additives A and B: store at –20 °C; valid for one year.

Precautions

  • Upon receipt, if Organoid Medium Additives A and B are thawed, use immediately or aliquot and store at –20 °C. Once thawed again, use immediately; do not refreeze.
  • Additive A is an opaque light brown liquid; Additive B is a colorless transparent liquid. If precipitation occurs due to freeze–thaw cycles, discontinue use to avoid further loss.
  • SBSOrganoid™ Organoid Basal Medium contains antibiotics to reduce the risk of bacterial and fungal contamination during use. Always perform aseptic operations to avoid microbial contamination. If turbidity or precipitation is observed, discontinue use.
  • During organoid experiments, it is recommended to rinse consumables with SBSOrganoid™ Anti-Adhesion Rinse Solution, which effectively reduces nonspecific adhesion of cells and tissues to centrifuge tubes, culture dishes, and plates.
  • For washing steps during experiments, Advanced DMEM/F-12 may also be used in place of the Organoid Basal Medium.
