Description
GoodView™ Red Nucleic Acid Stain is a new generation fluorescent nucleic acid dye, engineered for enhanced performance in electrophoresis applications. This oil-based macromolecular stain (molecular weight >1000) exhibits no mutagenicity at standard gel staining concentrations, ensuring safe and reliable use. Through an innovative Fluorescence Resonance Energy Transfer (FRET) design, GoodView™ Red eliminates DNA band smearing and tailing issues commonly observed with similar products when staining large DNA fragments. This results in crisp band clarity, improved migration efficiency, precise quantification, uniform staining, exceptional sensitivity, and outstanding stability.
Features
Superior Band Clarity: Overcomes the limitations of similar products in staining large DNA fragments, ensuring sharp, well-defined bands.
Enhanced Safety: The unique oil-based macromolecular structure (molecular weight >1000) prevents penetration into living cells, reducing potential mutagenicity. Due to its large molecular size, it does not intercalate into the DNA double helix, minimizing mutation risks. At working concentrations, GoodView™ Red shows no mutagenicity, making it a safer alternative to ethidium bromide (EB) for nucleic acid electrophoresis.
Improved Migration Efficiency: EB, being a small molecule, quickly diffuses out of the gel, making small DNA fragments difficult to visualize. GoodView™ Red retains within the gel, addressing EB’s drawbacks and enhancing band visibility.
Accurate Quantification: Effectively replaces EB for precise nucleic acid size determination and quantification, especially for small DNA fragments, where EB often leads to inaccurate measurements.
Uniform Staining: Maintains consistent brightness across the gel, ensuring even fluorescence at both the negative and positive poles. EB often produces high-background fluorescence, leading to inconsistencies such as patchy or uneven gel backgrounds and signal degradation in long-duration electrophoresis.
High Sensitivity: Exhibits greater fluorescence intensity and sensitivity than EB across various fragment sizes, with less impact on nucleic acid migration than SYBR Green.
Exceptional Stability: Highly heat-resistant and can be directly added to buffer solutions, even in gels dissolved at 100°C, ensuring uniform staining distribution. Compatible with microwave or heat-assisted agarose gel preparation methods.
Strong Light Resistance: Can be stored at room temperature in typical laboratory conditions for over 24 months, provided it is protected from direct sunlight and UV exposure.
High Signal-to-Noise Ratio: Produces strong sample fluorescence signals while maintaining low background noise, improving detection accuracy.
Simplified Workflow: Functions identically to EB—remains stable in precast gels and during electrophoresis without degradation. For post-electrophoresis staining, the process requires only 30 minutes, no destaining or washing needed.
Versatile Application: Ideal for nucleic acid staining and detection in both agarose and polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis, supporting dsDNA, ssDNA, and RNA staining.
Excellent Compatibility:
GoodView™ Red is optimized for UV gel transilluminators.
GoodView™ Green is suitable for blue light and visible light imaging systems.

Usage Instructions
I. Agarose Gel Electrophoresis Staining (Recommended Method)
To stain nucleic acids within the gel:
- Gel Preparation: Prepare agarose gel using standard procedures. Add GoodView™ Red Nucleic Acid Stain stock solution to achieve a final 1× concentration in the gel (e.g., for 50 mL of gel, add 5 μL of dye). Mix gently and pour the gel.
- Electrophoresis & Observation: Perform electrophoresis as usual and analyze the results using an appropriate imaging system.
II. Immersion Staining Method (Recommended for High-Concentration DNA Recovery)
- Conduct electrophoresis using standard procedures. Immersion staining is highly recommended for high-concentration DNA samples requiring gel recovery.
- Prepare staining solution: Dilute 10,000× GoodView™ Red stock solution 10,000-fold in water to prepare a 1× staining solution.
- Staining procedure: Carefully place the gel in a polypropylene container and slowly add an adequate amount of 1× staining solution to fully submerge the gel. Stain at room temperature with gentle shaking for ~30 minutes. The optimal staining time may vary depending on gel thickness and agarose concentration (for 1% agarose gels, ~30 minutes is recommended).
- Observation: View results using a UV gel imaging system with 302 nm excitation.
For UV imaging systems, use GoodView™ Red Nucleic Acid Stain. For laser imaging systems or visible-light detection, opt for GoodView™ Green Nucleic Acid Stain.
Storage
It can be stored for 24 months at room temperature, protected from light.
