Description
Recombinant Firefly Luciferase is a luciferase enzyme derived from the North American firefly (Photinus pyralis) and recombinantly expressed in E. coli. It has a molecular weight of approximately 62 kDa. This enzyme requires ATP, molecular oxygen, and the heterocyclic compound luciferin to produce light through a two-step reaction. Luciferase is widely used in molecular and cellular biology, primarily for the quantitative detection of ATP using bioluminescent assays or as a crucial reagent in the production of luciferase-based assays and research kits.
