Biology Information

• Product Description: Leupeptin is a reversible inhibitor of serine and cysteine proteases. It inhibits cathepsin B (Ki=6nM), calpain (Ki=10nM), trypsin (Ki=3nM), plasmin (Ki=3.4μM), and kallikrein (Ki=19μM), but has no effect on chymotrypsin, elastase, renin, or pepsin.

• In Vitro Studies: Leupeptin, produced by various species of actinomycetes, strongly inhibits protein hydrolysis. Leupeptin hemisulfate protects microtubule proteins from degradation by endogenous proteases during isolation, leading to increased purity of microtubule proteins. Leupeptin hemisulfate is capable of restoring the expression of up to 50% of hepatitis B surface antigen (HBsAg) in cell suspension cultures.
