Description

This product is molecular biology grade Glycogen, free of DNase and RNase, and can be used as a carrier for the precipitation of DNA or RNA.

As an auxiliary precipitation agent for DNA or RNA, glycogen often provides better results compared to tRNA or sonicated DNA. Since glycogen does not contain DNA or RNA, the nucleic acids precipitated with glycogen as the auxiliary agent are more suitable for subsequent PCR, RT-PCR, and restriction enzyme reactions. On the other hand, tRNA or sonicated DNA used as an auxiliary precipitation agent can sometimes interfere with PCR, RT-PCR, and restriction enzyme reactions.

According to literature reports, glycogen precipitation of ligation products does not interfere with subsequent bacterial transformation. Glycogen at a concentration of 0.001 mg/ml does not inhibit TdT, glycogen at a concentration not exceeding 2 mg/ml does not affect the activity of reverse transcriptase, and glycogen at a concentration of 0.02 mg/ml does not inhibit T4 RNA ligase. However, glycogen may interfere with the interaction between DNA and proteins.

Typically, 1 μl of Glycogen (20 mg/ml) is sufficient to precipitate DNA or RNA in the picogram (pg) range from a 1 ml solution system. Each package contains enough glycogen to precipitate at least 500 standard DNA or RNA samples.

Precautions

• Usually, add 1 microliter of Glycogen (20mg/ml) per sample. In cases where the interference of Glycogen with subsequent reactions is known, the amount of Glycogen can be reduced accordingly, or tRNA can be used as an alternative carrier for precipitation.
• This product is intended for use by professionals in scientific research only. It is not intended for clinical diagnosis or treatment, and should not be used in food or pharmaceutical applications. It should not be stored in residential areas.
• For your safety and well-being, please wear appropriate laboratory attire and disposable gloves during operation.

Storage

Store at -20°C. The product is valid for at least one year.
