DNA mismatch repair system (MMR) is primarily composed of three proteins: MutS, MutL, and MutH. In addition to these three proteins, MutS2 is a homologous protein of MutS, which has an additional C-terminal endonuclease domain compared to MutS, but lacks the N-terminal mismatched base recognition and binding domain. Therefore, MutS2 possesses endonuclease activity but lacks the activity to recognize mismatched base pairs, insert, or delete. MutS2 exhibits endonuclease activity, ATPase activity, and DNA binding activity (but does not specifically bind mismatched base pairs).

Description
