Description
β1-4 Galactosidase S, also known as β1-4 galactosidase, β(1→4) galactosidase, or S. pneumoniae β(1→4) galactosidase, is a recombinant exoglycosidase expressed in E. coli, originally derived from Streptococcus pneumoniae. This enzyme specifically hydrolyzes non-reducing β1→4-linked galactose residues in glycoproteins and oligosaccharides.
It is ideal for applications such as glycan sequencing, glycoprotein glycan digestion, and general glycoprotein analysis.
The protein contains an N-terminal His-tag, allowing for convenient removal after use via immobilized metal affinity chromatography (IMAC), such as His-tagged antibody agarose gels, magnetic beads, or nickel columns.
Glycosylation is a type of post-translational modification (PTM) that occurs in nearly all living organisms, including eukaryotes, eubacteria, and archaea. The diversity of glycosylation alters protein mass and charge, playing critical biological roles in processes such as protein sorting, immune recognition, receptor binding, inflammation, pathogenicity, and many others. Recent studies have also revealed that nucleic acids can undergo glycosylation modifications.
