Description

Insulin is a peptide hormone secreted by the pancreatic β-cells. It is a common additive in serum-free mammalian cell culture media and plays a crucial role in numerous cellular activities, such as facilitating the transport of glucose and amino acids, enhancing synthetic metabolism while reducing breakdown metabolism, and stimulating cell growth, among others. Recombinant human insulin is a peptide composed of 51 amino acid residues produced through recombinant technology. It typically appears as a white or off-white crystalline powder, virtually insoluble in water, ethanol, and ether, but readily soluble in dilute hydrochloric acid and dilute sodium hydroxide solutions.
