• Product Description: Pepstatin A is a potent inhibitor of aspartic proteases and can inhibit HIV replication.

• In Vitro Studies: Pepstatin A effectively inhibits aspartic proteases such as proteinase, tissue proteinase D, and E. In HIV-infected H9 cells, pepstatin A inhibits the synthesis of HIV gag protein within cells without significant toxicity to the infected cells. Pepstatin A inhibits osteoclast proliferation by blocking ERK signaling and suppressing the expression of NFATc1.
• In Vivo Studies: Pepstatin exhibits very low toxicity with LD50 values of 1090mg/kg, 875mg/kg, 820mg/kg, and 450mg/kg for mice, rats, rabbits, and dogs, respectively, when administered intraperitoneally (i.p.). It also shows LD50 values above 2000mg/kg for all species when administered orally. Pepstatin (0.5-50mg/kg, p.o.) suppresses stomach ulceration of the pylorus in ligated Shay rats.
