Description
Erbb2 is a member of the human epidermal growth factor receptor family. The amplification or over-expression of Erbb2 is significantly implicated in the development and progression of certain aggressive types of breast cancer, strongly correlating with increased disease recurrence and poor prognosis. Additionally, Erbb2 over-expression is observed in ovarian, stomach, lung adenocarcinoma, and aggressive forms of uterine cancer. Given its pivotal role in cancer development and progression, Erbb2 is targeted by the monoclonal antibody trastuzumab.
