Biochemical/Physiological Actions
Glucosamine is an amino sugar and a precursor in the hexosamine biosynthesis pathway, leading to the formation of UDP-N-acetylglucosamine (UDP-GlcNAc), which is used in the synthesis of glycosaminoglycans, proteoglycans, and glycolipids. D-(+)-Glucosamine inhibits the coaggregation of Candida yeast strains with Streptococcus salivarius strains.
