Description
2-Deoxy-D-glucose 6-phosphate disodium (2-DG6P) is a derivative of 2-deoxy-D-glucose (2DG), produced in mammalian cells by the action of hexokinase (HK). 2-DG6P accumulates within cells, inhibiting glycolysis by suppressing hexokinase and glucose-6-phosphate isomerase, leading to cell death. In vitro, 2-DG6P can be oxidized by glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase, consuming NADP+. In bacteria and yeast, 2-DG6P phosphatase can break down 2-DG6P into 2-DG.
